and about 400µ in diameter, rugose, gradually tapering towards
the base and ending in a much branched rhizoidal system.
The rhizoids
are 100 - 125µ broad. The stalk is surrounded by a circular,
flat or umbrella like crown, 1.97 mm to 3.15mm in diameter and consisting
of 15 - 17 subcoalescent cystosporangial rays. Each ray is 0.67 mm
to 1.3 mm long, 0.29 mm to 0.5 mm broad at the rounded distal end
and 0.14 mm to 0.16 mm wide at the narrower base.
The superior
corona alone is present and consists of 15 - 17 knob-shaped segments
70 -90 µ in diameter. Each coronal knob bears a circular roup
